Lower Sixth urban study day WCS Wells Cathedral School Independent Prep Somerset England

Lower Sixth urban study day

Bristol once again hosted our Geographers and this time it was the Lower Sixth who witnessed the variety of landuse to be found in the city.

Following a boat trip around the Floating Harbour they visited the historic upmarket enclave of Clifton with its elevated location, followed by a walk around the Central Business District of Bristol, including Cabot Circus, Castle Park and Bristol’s historic covered market and Corn Exchange. In the St. Paul’s ward of Bristol pupils saw the famous mural of Empire Windrush, the boat that brought the first wave of post-war migrants to this country. The group then headed north past the aviation hub at Filton and on to the edge-of-city locations of north Bristol.

Pupils learned about the structure of landuse of the city which continues to evolve.
