Year 8 Geography trip to Cheddar

On a particularly hot day in June, Year 8 Geographers, accompanied by Mr Boot, Mr Rowley, Mrs Murdoch and Mr Dosanjh, headed to Cheddar for the annual study of limestone and visit to Cheddar caves. Pupils enthusiastically learned about the origins of the Mendip anticline, the formation of Cheddar Gorge itself, one of the great geographical features in the South West, and underground limestone formations. The guide told pupils about “Cheddar Man”, a Mesolithic skeleton discovered in 1903, and explained the formation of flowstone. Pupils finished the day with a well deserved ice cream before heading back to School.
