Ben Sparks speaks to Specialist Mathematicians
Speaker Ben Sparks visited Wells on Monday 27th November to deliver two talks to Specialist Mathematicians.
Ben, a former secondary school Maths teacher, is a mathematician and musician who is based at the University of Bath; he works with the Advanced Maths Support Programme (AMSP) and gives maths talks workshops around the world. He runs his own YouTube channel called SparksMaths and regularly works with the Numberphile YouTube channel (where his videos have been watched over 16 million times!).
Ben delivered a talk on ‘The Creation of Number’ to 46 specialists and further mathematicians in Year 10 to the Upper Sixth and he presented some ‘Mathematical Magic’ to the 37 specialists in Years 7 to 9.
Pupils thoroughly enjoyed his talks and a lucky few continued their conversations about Maths with Ben over lunch. We thank Ben hugely for coming to Wells and we look forward to hearing more from him in the future.
