Jess Gillam visit
Before half Term, pupils were treated to a two day residency with superstar saxophonist and BBC presenter Jess Gillam.
Jess worked with pupils in an open workshop for all musicians and a masterclass for saxophonists. Jess was joined by her pianist Zeynep Özsuca and bassist Sam Becker who also gave masterclasses for our pupils. The three musicians also took part in a Q&A session where they shared some insightful thoughts about the music profession. The residency culminated in a gala recital where the trio performed an eclectic mix of repertoire from Telemann and Poulenc to Phil Woods and Barbara Thompson.
Head of Woodwind and Saxophone tutor, Mr Leaker, comments, “We had an inspirational two days with Jess. It was a delight for pupils to be able to work with a real star of the current classical music scene. A highlight was seeing our pupils perform on stage alongside Jess as part of her recital.”
