String Festival at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
At the end of an amazingly full and musically fulfilling Epiphany Term, a Wells String Quartet travelled to Glasgow to take part in the String Festival at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS).
Our musicians stepped straight off the bus and into an open rehearsal of the string orchestra version of Shostakovich’s iconic ‘8th String Quartet’. Our musicians stood next to string players from the Senior Conservatoire and the overall sound was terrific in the Stevenson Hall.
The following days featured masterclasses with the members of the famous Brodsky Quartet, while Jeffrey Sharkey, RCS Principal and Wells Governor, gave the group a tour of the Conservatoire. Everyone was so impressed with the opera theatre in particular as well as all the opportunities to pursue a truly varied musical education.
Following the Wells Quartet performance of the first “Razumovsky” Quartet by Beethoven, members of the Brodsky Quartet sought out the group to express how impressed they were with our pupils’ playing, their commitment and their clear joy in exploring chamber music.
Thanks go to Professor Andrea Gajic (RCS Head of Strings) for organising the weekend and for welcoming Wells so warmly.
