Somerset Schools Golf Championship
On Wednesday 20th March, six pupils travelled to the Weston-Super-Mare Golf Club to play in the Somerset Schools Golf Championship.
In the past, the School has had single golfers who have been interested in playing so it was really exciting this year to get two teams entered! The course was incredibly still which is almost unheard of for Weston, making the conditions ideal for playing. Sadly, due to high tides and a lot of recent rainfall, some of the course was closed so the competition only took place over 10 holes.
This was the first time these pupils had played in this tournament and for many, it was their first competitive experience outside of a weekly medal. The anticipation grew around the first tee as they waited for their tee time – nothing can prepare you for the nerves as you wait, knowing your first shot can be seen by the crowds surrounding! It was a valiant effort from all on the day, with everyone displaying great resilience to keep going.
The enthusiasm to keep playing has been ignited and tee times for the Easter holidays were booked on the minibus on the way home.
A great day of Golf was had by all!
