Sound of Wells Festival
It has been brilliant for School musicians to be so strongly involved with the Cathedral-led Sound of Wells Festival.
In a week featuring over a dozen fabulous musical events it was wonderful to hear a Choral Evensong which combined fabulous tradition with such fresh music featuring our GMA Megan Glover playing saxophone alongside the Cathedral organ. The anthem for the evening was composed for the choir and saxophone by Eva (Upper Sixth) and the whole service was outstanding.
More School composers had their works performed in a Lunchtime Concert; the vocal recital by William Drakett featured our string players playing Dover Beach by Barber; and our singers and Choristers received masterclasses from the celebrated countertenor, Robin Blaze.
In Cedars Hall, five of our most senior instrumentalists competed for the chance to play a concerto next year with the School Symphony Orchestra. All of them performed so well and professionally. Particular congratulations go to Elizabeth (bassoon, Lower Sixth) on being judged the winner.
At the end of the week it was incredible to host one of the finest Baroque violinists in the world, Rachel Podger, who gave both an inspirational concert and superb masterclasses. The Choristers then performed in the ‘St John Passion’ by Bach.
What a week! Thank you to all involved.
