Music School’s 50th anniversary
The 22nd of June was an auspicious day – not only was the School marking the centenary of the Wellensian Association, but it was also 50 years to the day that Quilter Hall was opened as the home of the Specialist Music Programme.
To mark the occasion, the Hall was packed with Old Wellensians, including several who were among the first cohort of specialist musicians, for a celebratory concert. The concert was given by some of our finest senior musicians and was superb!
Aniela, Teagan, Toby and Harry (Lower Sixth) performed the first movement of Beethoven’s first Razumovsky quartet; Rufina (Upper Sixth) played sublimely in Schubert’s Impromptu in G flat; Defne (Upper Sixth) played two evocative works for harp and Dawid and Kamil (Upper Sixth) were spectacular and joyous in Gershwin’s Concert Fantasy on Porgy and Bess.
The audience was thrilled and all agreed that the Specialist Music programme is in great health – we look forward to the next 50 years!
