CHATS Talk – Revolution!
On the evening of Thursday 19th September, our A level Art and History of Art pupils had the rare opportunity to listen to renowned film-maker Margy Kinmonth introduce a screening of her acclaimed documentary, Revolution: New Art for a New World, in Cedars Hall, as part of the CHATS series of talks.
This interesting documentary explores the explosion in Russian avant-garde art in the period immediately following the 1917 Revolution in Russia. In addition to hearing Margy talk about the making of this documentary, pupils also gained an invaluable insight into some of Margy’s wider career and life experience in both becoming and working as a filmmaker. Through watching the film itself, pupils gained a greater understanding of the work of pioneering artists such as Kandinsky, Chagall and Malevich, as well as the historical and social context in which they developed their artwork and concepts.
It was a fascinating and enriching evening!
