Animal Magic WCS Wells Cathedral School Independent Prep Somerset England

Animal Magic

Cedars Hall was filled with birds, beasts and Animal Magic in October, for our four performances to audiences young and old.

Carnival of the Animals became a spectacular feast for the eyes, with stunning choreography and movement from the Dance and Drama Departments melding seamlessly with the music. Outstanding musical performances came from Symphony Orchestra pupils, with both soloists and orchestra shining. The spectacle was particularly enjoyed in matinée performances to our Prep School on Wednesday 16th and local primary schools Stoberry and St Joseph and St Teresa Catholic Primary School on Thursday 17th.

The programme also included the wonderfully anarchic Learsongs of William Mathias, with illustrations enhancing the joyful singing from Choralia pupils and Orchestra. Featuring poems including Lear’s most famous The Owl and the Pussycat, the witty and sparkling orchestration was played and sung brilliantly. The second half of the concert featured Schubert’s graceful Symphony no.5 in B flat to end a superb short Term from the Music Department.
