Justin Mortimer painting relocated
A large piece of work, Women Bathing, painted by OW Justin Mortimer (1988) whilst at the School, has been relocated from the School Library to a more prominent position in the John Baxter Foyer of Cedars Hall.
Justin Mortimer attended the School from 1982-1988 and achieved Direct Entry to the Slade School of Fine Art – UCL. Justin won the BP National Portrait Prize in 1991 with his painting of Harold Pinter (National Portrait Gallery) and, in 1997, he was commissioned by the Royal Society of the Arts (RSA) to paint Queen Elizabeth II.
Women Bathing now hangs adjacent to the print by Jeffrey Blondes, kindly donated by GBS Fine Art, and opposite Peter Eugene Ball’s sculpture, to continue the expansion of the School’s collection of artwork by a range of notable artists and Old Wellensians. This work is soon to be joined by a framed copy of the image of Ring of Young Hands 2022 as taken and named by the British land artist Sir Richard Long when he worked with a group of Prep School pupils in Year 3 and our Year 7-9 Art Scholars in the Senior School in May 2022. So watch this space!
