Faraday Engineering Challenge WCS Wells Cathedral School Independent Prep Somerset England

Faraday Engineering Challenge

This week, Wells proudly hosted the IET Faraday Engineering Challenge, welcoming teams from Kingswood, Leweston, and Badminton schools.

This national, hands-on competition, run by the Institute of Engineering and Technology, challenged pupils to design and build a prototype toy or educational device powered by battery technology, aligning with the global goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Two teams of six Year 8 pupils represented Wells with innovative designs. One team developed a shape-sorting toy with pressure sensors that produced sounds when shapes were correctly placed, while the other created an interactive farmyard storytelling device, featuring the memorable highlight of a spinning pig!

Whilst the trophy went to Kingswood School, the day was an inspiring experience for all, fostering creativity, teamwork, and practical problem-solving alongside real engineers. The event was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to showcase their ingenuity and enthusiasm for sustainable engineering.
