Flute Skills Day and Ian Clarke masterclasses
On Sunday 11th May we welcomed nearly 60 flautists aged 8-73 into Cedars Hall for our Flute Skills Day.
Participants were treated to ensemble classes, workshops and masterclasses led by Wells tutors Susie Hodder-Williams and Emma Halnan. We were also able to welcome special guest tutor Ian Clarke. Ian is acknowledged as one of the leading players and composers in the flute world and it was hugely exciting to have him with us. Highlights were hearing Ian perform alongside Wells tutors and then having almost 60 flautists perform together on stage. Wells flute specialists were ambassadors for the School and for the flute, helping to host the day. A special mention should go to Diego JH and Lily O (Upper Sixth) for their outstanding work in mentoring some of the younger players who attended. We also ably assisted by GMA flautists Josephine Connor and Esther Blakey who led ensemble sessions and workshops. We were delighted that Ian Clarke was able to stay with us until Monday when he led group and solo masterclasses with our specialist flautists.
