Athletics success
Archie B (Year 11) won the Somerset Championships U17 long jump with a personal best of 6.26m, while Elspeth P (Year 9) has been competing in a number of competitions including the Yeovil Open, the South West League, the County Championships, the Mendip Area Championships and the Yeovil Evening Opens Sapphire League. Following her performance in the County Championships, she has been selected to represent the Somerset Schools Athletic Association in the South West Regional Combined Events. She will be part of the Junior Girls Pentathlon, competing in the 75m hurdles, shot putt, high jump, long jump and 800m. Further to her county selection, she has also been chosen to represent the Mendip Area Athletics team in the Somerset Schools Athletics Championship in the 200m, 300m and javelin events. She will be in great Wells company alongside Ariane L-J (Year 9) in the discus and 200m, Alexandra D (Year 9) in the 800m, Zak M (Year 10) in the 100m, 200m and javelin, Orlando E (Lower Sixth) in the 800m and Archie in the long jump. This comes after their successful performances in the Mendip Area Championships held at Millfield School earlier this Term. A well done must also go to all those who competed and a special mention to Will McA who did particularly well as a Year 7 competing in a Year 8 and 9 competition, where he placed a very respectable 3rd place out of 17 competitors in the long jump event.
