Hockey players enjoy busy summer
The Talent Academy (TA) Festival took place in Nottingham with Alex M (Lower Sixth), Poppy W (Year 11) and Emily B (Year 11) representing Team Bath and Lulu M (Year 10) representing University of Bristol. Both squads played three fixtures against other TAs from around the country with all of our pupils performing very well in their games. Well done to our seven pupils who have attended TA 2024-2025 (Orlando E (Lower Sixth), Paul K-K (Lower Sixth) and George Mycock (Year 11)). Lulu M (Year 10) three days later captained the West Panthers U16s who won the Mercia Cup which was held at Malvern College. It was a great achievement for her in a very busy week!
Josef Z, Kieran K, Elspeth P and Olivia B (Year 9) all represented the West Panthers U14s at the Mercia Cup also held at Malvern. The boys team won the tournament and the girls team came third – all four Wellensians played very well. Izzy D (Year 8) represented the West Panthers U13s at the UK Lions Festival of Hockey in Nottingham. Over the course of the weekend Izzy played in six fixtures in sweltering conditions and really enjoyed the occasion.
Additionally, we were delighted to see former Wells pupil Selma K representing Austria at the recent European U18 Hockey Championships in Glasgow. Selma joined us for two Terms as a short stay pupil and was a valued member of our 1st XI squad. Equally exciting was the participation of current Lower Sixth pupil Tilly M, who represented Wales at the same tournament. A key player in our current Hockey side, Tilly continues to go from strength to strength. It was a special moment to see both girls competing at such a high level – albeit on opposite sides of the pitch! Austria finished in fourth place, with Wales close behind in fifth, in what was a fiercely competitive tournament. We are incredibly proud of both Selma and Tilly for their achievements and for representing their countries and Wells Cathedral School with such distinction on the international stage.
