Girls’ Hockey XI competes in Sherborne tournament
Our Girls’ Hockey 1st XI enjoyed a remarkable day at the Sherborne tournament, securing second place out of eleven schools despite having had just two training sessions. After a narrow 1-0 loss to Truro in their opening game, Wells bounced back with determined 1-0 victories over last year’s champions KES Southampton and a strong Canford side, before a 0-0 draw with King’s College Taunton secured second place in their pool. In the semi-final, the team produced a dominant performance to defeat KES Bath 1-0, setting up a final against Taunton, where a scrappy short-corner goal proved decisive in a narrow defeat. Finishing second overall was an outstanding achievement and Head of Hockey Mr Mayes praised the team’s resilience, skill and the support of parents and staff, with hopes that the tone has been set for a fantastic season ahead.
