Wells Cathedral School Appoints New Director of Sport
The Governors and Head Master of Wells Cathedral School are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Jack Perham as the new Director of Sport from September 2026.
Jack will succeed Mr Tom Webley who, after an impressive and hugely successful eight year tenure at the School, has been promoted to be Director of Sport at Harrow School. Sport has gone from strength to strength at Wells under Tom’s leadership, presenting an exciting opportunity for his successor to build on his legacy and take Wells to the next level in terms of its sporting provision and success.
The role attracted a large field of applications, and Jack was part of an extremely strong shortlist of candidates who were considered for the post. Jack impressed throughout a rigorous process and will bring a wealth of practical and strategic experience to the role. As well as ensuring our existing wide-ranging sporting provision continues to flourish, he will oversee the School’s exciting recently formed association with Chelsea Football Club, which will bring further first-class sporting expertise into the School to the benefit of all pupils, not just those on our new Football Pathway.
Jack is currently Head of Academic and Curriculum PE and the Sport Scholarships Programme Director at Royal High School, Bath. He has held previous Sport Department posts, including Head of Cricket at Forest School and Cranford School.
He has worked in cricket for the past 15 years as a fielding and strength and conditioning coach. He has worked for various counties and consulting for national sides, including Somerset County Cricket Club, Buckinghamshire Cricket Board, Oxfordshire Cricket and the National Fast Bowling Academy.
In addition, Jack has been a Head of Junior Weightlifting Coach for the Indian Weightlifting Federation, and worked as a Strength and Conditioning Coach and Personal Trainer.
Wells Cathedral School Head Master Alastair Tighe says:
“It was heartening for us as a School to see this wonderful opportunity attract a high calibre field. Jack’s vision for sporting excellence at Wells was engaging and compelling; he impressed all those who met him during the interview process; and he demonstrated a real passion for, and understanding of, all that Wells does currently offer in sport, and can offer in the future. This is an exciting appointment for the whole School.”
Jack Perham says:
“I am delighted to be appointed Director of Sport at Wells Cathedral School and to have the exciting opportunity to help shape and structure the future of the School’s sport and physical education provision. I look forward to further developing the role that movement and physical activity play across the whole school community, ensuring they are valued as an integral part of every pupil’s experience.
I am eager to build on the outstanding work and success of Tom Webley, continuing to champion the highest levels of both performance and participation. Strengthening the connection between the Prep and Senior School will be an important focus, helping to create a clear and supportive pathway for all pupils.
I also look forward to supporting our Heads of Sport in delivering their ambitions and vision for their respective programmes, enabling them to create through-school pathways for pupils and to develop the most outstanding and engaging sporting provision possible.
Above all, I am committed to ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to enjoy and engage in their own unique physical literacy journey, developing a lifelong appreciation for movement, health, and sport.”
Mr Perham will join the School in September 2026.
