National Youth Theatre success for Oliver
We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Oliver J (Year 11), who has successfully secured a place with the prestigious National Youth Theatre following a highly competitive audition process in Bristol.
The National Youth Theatre auditions attract thousands of applicants each year, with candidates required to prepare and perform contrasting monologues, demonstrate their ability to take direction, and engage in workshop-style group activities. Selection is based not only on performance skill, but also on creativity, collaboration, and potential. Oliver’s success is a testament to his talent, commitment, and artistry.
As part of this opportunity, Oliver will take part in a ten-day summer course, working alongside other young performers in an intensive devising project. This programme offers participants the chance to create original work, develop their performance techniques, and collaborate with industry professionals – an invaluable experience for any aspiring actor.
Reflecting on his achievement, Oliver said:
“I was extremely happy and proud to read that I was accepted into the National Youth Theatre after my audition in Bristol. It means that I can broaden my acting and hopefully have many more experiences that can build my portfolio. I will also be attending a ten-day course over the summer where I will be part of a devising project for National Youth Theatre.
Wells Cathedral School has properly helped me find my love for acting, and I have been part of every production since I joined. Being a Drama Scholar has also improved my acting ability, such as audition practice, monologue work and much more.”
Mr Todres, Director of Drama and Head of the Creative Arts Faculty, added:
“We are enormously proud of Oliver on achieving success at such a prestigious national level. From his early days as a Chorister in the Prep School to becoming a compelling presence on stage in productions including Matilda, Annie, West Side Story and most recently Shakespeare in Love, Oliver has consistently demonstrated not only a developing craft and distinctive style, but also an unwavering enthusiasm and dedication to his work. It has been a privilege to watch his journey so far, and we very much look forward to seeing where his creative path leads next.”
This is a truly wonderful accomplishment, and the whole School community congratulates Oliver on this exciting next step in his theatrical journey.
