National award success for ‘Shakespeare in Love’ Drama production

We are delighted to announce that Wells Cathedral School’s production of Shakespeare in Love has been awarded the prestigious National Opera and Drama Association (NODA) Award for Visual Excellence, recognising the exceptional creativity, craftsmanship and collaboration that brought this remarkable production to life. This national award recognises a truly ambitious theatrical achievement, featuring a full working replica of the 1600s Curtain Theatre complete with functioning balconies, stunning West End quality period costumes, imaginative ensemble-led staging, and a pupil-composed score that brought the colour, energy and atmosphere of Shakespeare’s London vividly to life.

This latest success continues an exceptional period for the Performing Arts at Wells Cathedral School. Following the School’s recognition as Independent School of the Year for Performing Arts in 2020 and a further nomination in 2025, our production of West Side Story was also a finalist in last year’s National School Theatre Awards in London’s West End. We are equally proud that Shakespeare in Love has now been shortlisted for five National School Theatre Awards, including Best Play and Best Ensemble, with the ceremony taking place this June. Huge congratulations to Mr Todres and his team on this latest achievement, and to all the pupils whose talent, commitment and creativity have contributed to this outstanding national success.
