Day Matron

Monday – Wednesday 8.00am – 5.30pm and alternate Saturdays
Term time plus a number of additional days during non term time
November 2026

We are looking for a caring, organised and approachable Day Matron to join our mixed boarding house team, supporting the pastoral care, wellbeing and day-to-day running of the house for our Year 4 to Year 8 pupils.

Working closely with the Houseparents, you will be a friendly and reassuring presence for our pupils, helping them settle into school life, supporting their wellbeing and ensuring the smooth running of the boarding house during the day.

The role is varied and includes pastoral support, first aid and medical liaison, coordinating laundry and travel arrangements, monitoring attendance, supporting housekeepers, maintaining records and supplies, and helping with house events and administration. You will also liaise with parents, guardians and school staff, and occasionally chaperone pupils to appointments.

We are looking for someone who is calm, caring and an excellent communicator, with good organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and a positive, flexible “can-do” attitude. An understanding and appreciation of different cultures and practices is important, as is the ability to use initiative and work effectively as part of a team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and would like to make a positive contribution to their wellbeing and experience of boarding school life.

A date for the interviews is to be scheduled

Suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date and Wells Cathedral School reserves the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made. Applicants are therefore encouraged to apply early.
