The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) is undertaking scrutiny of past and current safeguarding practices in a large variety of institutions which care for children. Residential Schools are currently being examined by the Inquiry, with Phase One hearings taking place the week beginning 30 September 2019. This phase of the Residential Schools Inquiry is focussing on, among other things, Specialist Music Schools, and Wells Cathedral School, along with the three other English Specialist Music Schools, has been requested by IICSA to contribute to this specific strand of the Residential Schools Inquiry.
The School has been committed to co-operating fully and openly with the Inquiry from the outset and we were therefore pleased that our application to be a Core Participant of the Inquiry was granted. The full hearing for Phase One of the Residential Schools Inquiry will take place from 30 September – 11 October 2019.
The safeguarding of children in our care is our highest priority at Wells Cathedral School, and we therefore welcome this opportunity to engage with the Inquiry. We are fully committed to continuing to support its work, to working with IICSA in an open and transparent manner throughout the duration of this process, and we look forward to receiving any recommendations from the Inquiry to further enhance our safeguarding provision, and that of all Residential Schools, in the future.
