Hockey Players Coached by Gold Medalists
Head of hockey, James Mayes, took seven lucky Year 8 hockey players to the annual Prep Schools Hockey Conference at Millfield this week, where they met and were coached by members of the gold medal winning Great Britain hockey squad.
Students Edward, Hermione, Lewis, Luisa, Mia, Max and Toby enjoyed a coaching day for prep school aged pupils, run by four of the Great Britain Olympic Gold medal winners: Alex Danson, Shona McCallin, Ellie Watton and Hollie Webb, plus two other international hockey players from Scotland and the USA.
Players rotated through twelve different stations, covering a variety of skills and techniques, such as deflections at goal from a ball fired from a cricket bowling machine, which the students obviously wanted to get faster and faster!
Head of hockey, James Mayes, said, “It was a fantastic day for all and we will return next year!”
