Keyboard Successes - Summer 2017

Summer Keyboard Successes

Our musicians have been busy flying the Wells flag over the summer holidays, with many pianists involved in competitions across Europe. Year 13 student Nick claimed fourth prize in the Manchester International Piano Concerto Competition, in a highly competitive field of 78 entrants from 23 countries, most of whom are at conservatoire. In the Final, held at the Stoller Hall in Chethams, Nick played Chopin’s E minor concerto with the Manchester Camerata conducted by Stephen Threlfall. Other finalists were from Julliard, Beijing Conservatoire, Shanghai Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Music. Year 12 student Nikita was awarded a special jury prize at the International Belcanto Competition in Italy. The age limit was 35 and Nikita was the youngest prizewinner. Year 12 student Nina was a finalist for the Scottish Young Pianist International Competition and came fourth in the Windsor International Piano competition.
