Brass and Percussion Promenade Concert
The first of our candlelit promenade concerts in Wells Cathedral took place last night, with a wonderful celebration of music at the Brass and Percussion Promenade.
With Stravinsky’s dramatic trumpet Fanfare for a New Theatre emanating from the Cathedral Organ Loft to commence the performances, the rapt audience were treated to a stunning evening of themed-based repertoire with a connection to the live stage, including opera, ballet, Irish dance, musicals, incidental music and modern dance. Presented by pupils from the junior school right though to the upper sixth, the music celebrated hundreds of years of music’s close association with the live stage.
Head of Student Experience and Well-being, Jayne Obradovic, said,
“Thank you, as always to our wonderful audience this evening. The Brass and Percussion department Prom is one of of our musical highlights. A huge variety of music, in one of the most beautiful buildings in the country with a truly special atmosphere. We are blessed to be able to perform in such a stunning location, just on our doorstep.”
