Mendip Area Primary Schools Quicksticks Hockey Festival
On Friday morning, Wells welcomed 220 local primary school pupils from nine Mendip schools to take part in a mixed Quicksticks Hockey festival and competition.
Older pupils from Years 5 and 6 took part in the Somerset Activity Sports Partnership (SASP) Competition, with coaching from Wells Graduate Sports Assistant and hockey specialist Liam Hedaux, followed by a round robin tournament. Pupils in Years 3 and 4 benefitted from an intensive coaching session led by 12 Wells Senior School sport scholars.
Pupils from the following schools took part in the SASP Competition: Catcott Primary School, Elmhurst Junior School, Horrington Primary School, Hugh Sexey Middle School, Kilmersdon Church of England Primary School, Priddy Primary School and Springmead School. The winning team at the tournament was Catcott Primary School, who will now proceed to the county finals of the SASP Competition.
Pupils from the following schools enjoyed the morning coaching session: Catcott Primary School, Horrington Primary School, Mells Church of England First School, Springmead School and West Pennard Church of England Primary School.
Director of Sport, Tom Webley, said, “Over 200 local pupils were involved in an amazing morning of hockey and loved the sessions we put on for them! Many of the primary school teachers made comment on how well our pupils coached the sessions, it was great to see them interacting with the younger pupils with such enthusiasm.”
