Live Streamed Popular Music Concert

Live Streamed Popular & Commercial Music Concert

On Friday evening, the Popular & Commercial Music Department hosted a live streamed concert on YouTube featuring talented young musicians performing a selection of original songs and covers. The focus for the event was to showcase Wells singer songwriters.

Among them they have recently featured on BBC radio and in the Song Academy Young Songwriter 2020 competition. We are proud to say that several pupils made it to the top 40 songs with Woody Collins receiving a Highly Commended prize and Hetta Falzon is through to the final 10 with results being announced in June.

The young musicians took the decision to present the show completely live, with no backing tracks allowed so pupils had to accompany themselves and perform ‘in the moment’. During lockdown, our pupils are missing the opportunity to perform to a live audience so were delighted that so many people joined the concert remotely and gave encouraging comments in lieu of applause!
Feedback included these lovely comments:

“Just to say how much we’re enjoying the concert – thanks so much for setting it up. What a brilliant way to start half term!”

“Thank you for organising such a fabulous concert. A fantastic group of young musicians and a lovely distraction for us all.”

“Absolutely top class performance. Well done to everyone who was involved.

It has inspired me to take up an instrument again after 30 plus years!”
