Elite Coaching Masters Awarded to Tom

Very many congratulations to Wells Director of Sport, Tom Webley, who has been awarded an MSc in Elite Coaching from the University of Gloucestershire.

For his specialised dissertation, ‘The impact of an independent education on sporting participation and success.‘, Tom conducted a vast amount of research into extra-curricular programmes at both independent and state schools throughout the country. His exploration found that pupils who attended independent schools had significantly increased opportunities to excel at sport, with particular reference to the quality of coaching, mentoring, facilities, and increased time spent playing sport. 

Tom now brings this research and expertise to coaching pupils at Wells. He said, “I feel the research can benefit our whole school community as it raises awareness about the importance of providing a broad range of opportunities in schools, alongside supporting individuals who aspire to achieve excellence.”
