Rugby at our Independent School in Somerset

Rugby is thriving at Wells

Rugby at Wells was shining brightly on Saturday, despite the wet and windy conditions, with a full block of rugby fixtures of all five age groups: U12s, U13s, U14s, U15s and the First XV.

The Year 7s and Year 8s played some fast flowing and expansive rugby on the picturesque setting of Cedars Field, the Year 9s and Year 10s travelled for a tough round of away fixtures, and the First XV – under the outstanding leadership of captain Tom Hill – stayed focused and determined throughout a very tight affair on Tor field.

Given all of these challenges, it was thrilling to see all five age groups come through with victories against some highly skilled opponents.

Head of Rugby Glenn Chenning said

“First, let me offer a massive “thank you” to all of the committed parents who braved the conditions to watch some excellent displays of rugby. I am so proud of how our rugby players have come together and showed the core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship throughout their training and matches. The future for rugby all across the age groups is looking very bright. Long may the enjoyment for the game continue here at Wells Cathedral School!”
