Geography lecture by Dr Chris Spencer
On Tuesday 20th February, University of West of England (UWE) Associate Director: Geography and Environment Dr Chris Spencer lectured on managing the Somerset coastline, a stretch that includes sand dune ecosystems, tourist towns and a nuclear power station. He considered the historic floods of 1607 and 1981 and highlighted the vulnerability of the low lying land of the Somerset Levels. With an expected rise in sea levels and the likelihood of more intense storms in the future he emphasised the importance of future management of the coast.
The lecture was attended by over 50 pupils and staff from Wells and guest schools Millfield and King’s Bruton.
