Woodwind and Brass trip to Berlin

Our Woodwind and Brass Quintets have just returned from a highly successful trip to Berlin where they collaborated with pupils from the Musikgynasium CPE Bach, one of our fellow specialist music schools belonging to the ‘Young Music Talents in Europe’ organisation.

Our pupils performed music by Barber, Bach and Horovitz before joining forces with their hosts to form two large ensembles performing music by Gounod, Brahms and Stephen Foster. Following two days of rehearsals, the concert was a huge success and we are very grateful to staff and pupils in Berlin for making the group feel so welcome both on and off the stage. On their second night, they were treated to a dress rehearsal of Richard Strauss’
Intermezzo with some stunning playing by the orchestra of the Deutsche Opera. Pupils also had the opportunity to absorb some of Berlin’s poignant history, visiting memorials to the Holocaust and to the Berlin Wall.

Mr Leaker, Head of Woodwind, comments, “
It was a joy to witness the musicality and professionalism of our pupils across a variety of year groups during an important international collaboration. We look forward to a possible exchange visit from Berlin pupils next year!
