Belinda’s singing experiences

Belinda G-G (Year 9), BBC Junior Young Chorister of the Year 2023, has sung at two incredible concerts this week.

On Sunday 1st December, she performed the role of The Child in Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford, singing a duet with the world-famous baritone Sir Bryn Terfel. This was met with some wonderful reviews:

The treble soloist, the excellent Belinda Gifford-Guy, reported on God’s storm clouds with a memorable shimmer” – The Times

… treble, Belinda Gifford-Guy rose, cool and firm, to the occasion as the Child who proclaims the end of the drought…”  – theartsdesk.com

Treble Belinda Gifford-Guy combined strong technique with charming vulnerability that worked well with Terfel’s powerful Elijah” – Thoroughly Good

On Tuesday 3rd December, she performed as soprano soloist at the Celebrating Christmas with the Salvation Army concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, where she has always dreamed of singing. She performed two pieces, Nella Fantasia by Morricone as a duet with Mezzo Soprano Anais Spencer, and again in the finale, in Angels from the Realms of Glory.

You can see Belinda’s performance on the Salvation Army’s YouTube channel. Belinda was also interviewed about her singing and her faith by BBC Radio 4, and her interview and singing will be broadcast during the highlights of this concert at 7am on BBC Radio 4 on Christmas morning.
