Trombone Day
Over 50 trombonists aged from 7 to 70 years old and from all over the country gathered in Wells for a day of ensemble playing, masterclasses and concerts in collaboration with the British Trombone Society. Guest tutors included Principal Trombone of the CBSO, Richard Watkin, and Principal Trombone of the BBC Concert Orchestra, Matthew Lewis, alongside the Trombone Department of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Representing the home trombone team was Wells trombone teacher Tom Lees alongside returning rising star OW Meggie Murphy (2019). A great day was had by all, culminating in a spectacular rendition of Soul Bossa Nova (aka Austin Powers theme tune!). Huge thanks to Yamaha instruments and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for their generous support of the day.
