Jasper wins RCS Clarinet Competition

Lower Sixth clarinet specialist Jasper Y has won the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) Clarinet Competition, part of their Clarinet Festival. Jasper was selected from a national round of video auditions to perform in the live final as one of just five finalists. He has been awarded £1000 by competition sponsors Buffet Crampon and was invited to perform in the festival showcase concert featuring Nicolas Baldeyrou and other guest performers. Adjudicators Heather Nicoll (RCS Head of Woodwind) and Joe Pacewicz were particularly impressed with Jasper’s performance of Karel Husa’s ‘Mountain Bird’. The Festival also featured performances by OW, former Royal Opera House principal and founding member of the Aurora Orchestra, Tim Orpen (2001).

Edward Leaker, Head of Woodwind, comments: “We are very proud of this exceptional achievement in world-class company. Jasper plays with real authority and is a credit to his clarinet teacher Richard Russell and the whole Woodwind Department.”
