Hockey Happy
Tilly M (Lower Sixth) hosted a Happy Hockey event, inspired by OW Dimity Williams (2024) who launched the event the year before, for local primary schools Stoberry Park and St Joseph and St Teresa. Tilly organised everything with support from fellow Lower Sixth Formers Linsey M, Alex M, Orlando E, Ollie S, Paul K-K and Noah J-B.
Mr Mayes, Head of Hockey, commented: “I have to say Tilly knocked it out of the park in terms of her enthusiasm and organisation with the two schools.”
The below is Tilly’s experience in her own words:
Earlier this year I decided that it would be amazing if we could have some of the local primary school children join us on our astro for a morning of Hockey in continuation with Dimity’s Happy Hockey initiative. We are so fortunate to have our brilliant facilities such as the astro and I know that when I was at village primary school the opportunity to go and play Hockey on an astroturf would have been amazing. The focus of the sessions was to just have fun and gain a basic understanding of some Hockey fundamentals so there were different stations each with a different focus with lots of games and competitions as well. Without the support of the Sport staff, Catering team and the Grounds staff it wouldn’t have been possible and I wouldn’t have had the confidence to reach out to the schools. By knowing that the staff were on board it made the whole planning process much easier and the sessions themselves went smoothly and were enjoyable for all involved.
