Zino is CSA Chorister Composition Competition winner
Our congratulations to Zino Z (Year 10) who has been announced as the winner of the 2026 CSA Chorister Composition Competition, in association with the Jonathan Wilcocks Trust.
The judge, Jonathan Wilcocks, had the following to say about Zino’s composition:
“It was a great pleasure to read all your composed settings of the ‘Songs of Praise’ text in this year’s Choir Schools’ Association David Willcocks Composition Competition.
There was a wide range of settings, from quite simple choral unaccompanied pieces up to more sophisticated compositions (written for up to 8 voice parts). More complicated and ambitious musical forms are not necessarily always the most successful – what we were looking for was choral pieces that were pleasingly consistent in your chosen style and which were sympathetic to the natural rhythms and message of the prescribed text. Many of the strongest pieces also showed helpful indication of performance detail – such as tempo, dynamics, phrasing etc.“
Zino’s achievement follows on from his success in the junior section of the CSA Competition in 2024.
