RCM Festival of Percussion WCS Wells Cathedral School Independent Prep Senior Sixth Form Somerset England

RCM Festival of Percussion

On Sunday 10th May, the Wells Percussion Department enjoyed an outstanding and memorable day at the Royal College of Music (RCM) Festival of Percussion alongside some of the country’s finest young percussionists.

The Festival provided a celebration of Percussion in all its forms, with pupils participating in workshops, masterclasses, performances and demonstrations led by internationally renowned performers and educators. Throughout the day, Wells pupils embraced every opportunity to learn, collaborate and perform, representing the School with professionalism and enthusiasm. Ricky L (Lower Sixth), Barnaby D (Upper Sixth), Bianca W (Upper Sixth) and Lewis M (Lower Sixth) performed repertoire by Ivan Trevino to a packed audience at RCM.

The Festival atmosphere was inspiring from beginning to end, offering pupils invaluable exposure to the wider Percussion community and reinforcing the Department’s reputation for excellence. Staff, pupils and supporters alike left feeling immensely proud of what had been achieved during such a special event.

The celebrations continued into the evening with a wonderfully warm Old Wellensian reunion, bringing together former pupils, staff, parents, and friends of the School. The reunion provided a fantastic opportunity for generations of musicians to reconnect, share memories, and celebrate the Wells Music community.

Altogether, the day was a tremendous success — a celebration not only of Percussion and musical excellence, but also of friendship, tradition, and the lasting connections formed through Music at Wells.
