These concerts are an important opportunity for our specialist musicians to perform their solo repertoire. They usually take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Quilter Hall.
These concerts showcase the repertoire that our musicians have prepared as part of their instrumental training. Age and experience will vary, taking the audience on a vibrant and educational journey.
Performance platforms ensure that every musician at Wells Cathedral School is offered a suitable performance opportunity. These concerts include our Going Solo series and Musical Extravaganza in which large ensembles such as Sinfonietta, Symphonic Wind Band, and Jazz Ensemble amongst others perform in Cedars Hall.
Wells Cathedral School perform at many local venues as well as more prestigious venues further afield, including international tours to Europe and America.
These concerts highlight the best of our ensemble works, including works by our own composers; we may also include a soloist of particular merit. Our composers’ concerts fall into this category as does our annual pupil project.
Wells Cathedral School Symphony Orchestra is our flagship ensemble, and they perform three to four times a year. The winner of our annual concerto audition competition usually performs with the Symphony Orchestra in our end-of-year concert in the Cathedral. In past years, our pupils have been honoured to work with guest conductors: Chris Adey, Jac van Steen, Chloé van Soeterstède and Ben Glassberg amongst others.
