Photography Trip to Lacock Abbey

Photography Trip to Lacock Abbey

On Monday 4th October, our Year 10 GCSE artists and photographers, visited Lacock Abbey to gain an insight into the work of William Henry Fox Talbot and visually investigate the magnificent architecture in and around his former residence, now National Trust property, in Wiltshire.

The sunny Autumn morning was perfect for pupils to take striking photographs of defined shadows and architectural details as well as looking through the window through which Fox Talbot discovered and created ‘a positive from what may be the oldest existing camera negative’, in 1835. In addition to making observational sketches and notes of their own discoveries, pupils also looked heavenward whilst visiting an exhibition of mesmerising images taken through telescopes, celebrating the Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition at the Fox Talbot Museum. An experience truly out of this world!
