Rock and Pop Open Mic Night

Open Mic Night Success for Rock and Popular Music Students

The first sixth form open mic night to take place in the new performing space in the Foyer of Cedars Hall was populated by students from the Rock and Popular Music Department. Although the night belonged to the sixth form, the student led event invited the Year 7 rock group to perform a guest set as the opening act. The band romped through four classical rock covers of Paranoid – Black Sabbath, Enter the Sandman – Metallica, Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana and American Idiot – Green Day. All the covers were performed with an extraordinary attention to detail and adherence to the original classics. The evening also featured a second performance of the day from Year 13 singer songwriter Marianne, who had started the day by becoming the first student to perform one of her own songs in the weekly music assembly to the whole school. The open mic night provided an opportunity for any sixth form student to step forward and perform any piece they wished; and following the evening’s success, further similar events are planned.
