Luke McCarthy Scholarship Wells Cathedral Independent School Somerset WCS

Luke is awarded Royal Academy of Music scholarship

Congratulations to Luke McCarthy (Upper Sixth) who has been awarded one of the two available scholarships to study at the Royal Academy of Music funded by Sony Music UK’s Social Justice Fund.

The UK arm of the Sony Music Group’s Global Social Justice Fund was created in June 2020 in order to support equal rights, social justice and anti-racist initiatives, thereby addressing structural inequality for lasting change. The scholarship has been launched in partnership with pianist, composer and producer Alexis Ffrench, who attended the Academy himself, for Black UK or international undergraduate pupils. As a beneficiary, Luke will receive financial support for each year of his undergraduate course.

Jayne Obradovic, Head of Student Experience and Well-being, Assistant DSL [Music] and Co-ordinator of Percussion and Summer Schools, said; “We are extremely proud of Luke’s success, enabling him to dive into his studies and career headfirst!

Well done Luke on your inspirational achievement!
