In Wednesday’s Afternoon Activities, members of the Royal Navy Section of the Wells CCF in Year 11 were challenged to construct their version of HMS Victory in a chocolate galleon team building competition.Head Master Alastair Tighe, who judged the cadets’ entries, found it extremely difficult to select a winner, but eventually chose the winning team, consisting of Elsie Carter, Sophie Karseras, Ben Mapleston, Oliver Sturgess and Ethan Turnbull.

Pupils in the Junior School have been particularly creative this term, working on a series of artworks during lockdown and on their return to the classroom.Year 4 pupils have been studying the patterns and colours found in water. Congratulations to Lower Sixth pianist Bridget Yee, who has just been awarded First Prize in the prestigious Putra International Piano Competition, in the Piano Concerto Young Artist (19 and below) section, playing the first movement of the Ravel Piano Concerto in G.The judging panel consisted of six members from five nations, included Armen Babakhanian, Ádám György and Julian Jacobson.Competition was tough with entrants from 27 countries and prizes only awarded to pianists playing at the very highest standard.Well done Bridget!

November Exeat Weekend Activities

This weekend boarders enjoyed an Exeat-with-a-difference. Upper Sixth Geology Field Trip

It was great to see the Upper Sixth geologists able to continue their mandatory fieldwork exercises in Portishead last week. Socially distanced sedimentary logging and sketching, face masks in minibus, hand gel, rule of six between localities and individual equipment in ziplocks meant that it was a little different from previous years, but the quality of work was excellent and the day was enjoyed by all.

Year 7 Team Building

Year 7 pupils made the most of last week’s beautiful weather as they completed a variety of activities to develop team building skills. The event was coordinated by Graham Norris who adjusted the programme to meet the most up to date Covid-19 guidelines. Year 10 pupils studying Art have already completed some high quality drawings this term as part of the Personal Portfolio component of their Art GCSE.
